Shubham Issar | SoaPen

Shubham Issar is an industrial designer and the co-founder of SoaPen, which promotes handwashing and overall hygiene with a pen that allows kids to draw using soap.

“We designed SoaPen to address the fact that handwashing with soap can prevent three children from illnesses that lead to high infant mortality rates.”

Ngyuen Vo | Greenjoy Straw

Ngyuen Vo is the founder of Greenjoy Straw, which manufactures straws entirely out of Lepironia grass.

Shricant Singh Binny | SootheEarth

Shricant Singh Binny is the co-founder and CEO of SootheEarth, an India-based business that manufactures paper products from banana stem fibers.

An estimated 80,000 to 160,000 trees are cut down daily, many of which are used to produce paper products. For every ton of Shricant’s products produced, 17 trees are saved from deforestation.

Nivine Hachem | Two Better

Nivine Hachem is the founder of Two Better, a business in Lebanon that transforms plastic waste into recycled boards and furniture for homes and commercial spaces.

Amita Deshpande | reCharkha

Amita Deshpande is the founder of reCharkha, which employs rural Indian women and youth to create upcycled textiles using the traditional charkha and handloom.

reCharkha aims to decrease waste pile up in India’s landfills and as a result, “[the waste] gets into the rivers and finally the oceans… in the process of harming so many of our co-inhabitants” explains Amita.

Miriam Feza is the founder of Uganda-based Clay Cosmo, which employs refugee teen mothers to produce beauty treatments from natural clay and organic oil blends.

Sarah Muguku is the founder of Whamboy Designs, a Kenya-based business that manufactures jewelry.

The Because Box is a bi-annual subscription containing 5+ social impact products developed by alumni of the Because Accelerator. Subscribers have the opportunity to engage with alumni of the program through both purchasing products and providing feedback to aid in product development.
