Imad Agi (ECOLOO Sanitation)

Imad Agi is the founder of ECOLOO, a waterless and enclosed sanitation system that transforms urine into liquid fertilizer for organic farming.

ECOLOO is based in Sweden but their product is created specifically for countries who are facing sanitation issues. ECOLOO’s pilot product was implemented in 2008 and, Imad explained, “the toilet is still up and running with great testimonials.”

Imad shared that ECOLOO “has been exported to over 20 countries and used by millions of people around the world, including in Malaysia, the Philippines, Mongolia, the Cook Islands, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Canada, Chile and more.”

While in the Because Accelerator, ECOLOO is working toward improving the financial sustainability of the product, cementing distribution channels, and establishing local production to create jobs in communities where the toilets are distributed.

In the future, ECOLOO will continue to educate consumers on the value of this enclosed sanitation system which promotes hygiene and saves water. Additionally, Imad shared that ECOLOO will partner with farmers to raise awareness about the benefits of natural fertilizer over chemical fertilizer.

Imad hopes ECOLOO will expand to be a leading sustainable sanitation solution around the world.
